Is Self Expense really free?
Yes. Manual entries, accounts, transfers, loans, budgets, the annual overview, Excel export and Google Drive backup are free forever. Pro adds AI & voice entry and removes ads.
Which languages does the AI understand?
English, Urdu script, Roman Urdu — and any mix of them in the same sentence. It understands amounts like “2 hazar”, “1.5k” and “1 lakh”, and loan words like udhaar, qarz and wapas.
Where is my financial data stored?
Your ledger lives in a database on your phone. Our servers only see the text you send for AI parsing, and they never store your transactions. Backups go to your own Google Drive, or to our server only if you switch that on.
How does the Pro subscription work?
Pro is billed monthly through Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. Your account switches to Pro as soon as payment succeeds and renews automatically each month. Cancel any time from your account page — you keep Pro until the end of the month you paid for.
Can I pay with a Pakistani debit or credit card?
Lemon Squeezy accepts international Visa and Mastercard cards (and PayPal where available). Many Pakistani bank cards work once online international payments are enabled — you can usually switch that on in your bank's app.
Does it work without internet?
Completely. Everything except AI parsing works offline. If you send an AI entry while offline, it's saved and processed automatically when you reconnect.
Will the AI ever add something I didn't approve?
Never. AI only proposes drafts. You review, edit and confirm every one before it reaches your ledger, and ambiguous amounts or loans are flagged instead of guessed.
Can I bring in my old Excel sheet?
Yes. Import a workbook and Self Expense creates any missing accounts, loans and categories and pairs transfers automatically.
